This comic is produced almost entirely using two free applications:
- DAZ Studio 3 – 3D Animation and rendering program based on, and compatible with SmithMicro’s Poser.
- Inkscape – Vector drawing program comparable (at least for my skill set) to Adobe Illustrator
I do any touch-up necessary in the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), a free program similar to Adobe Photoshop.
I edit story and panel text and ideas in Google Docs (Google, get me Google Docs on my Android phone! Shame on you!).
While the programs I use are all free, I do pay for some of the 3D models that I use, though most of what I use is free, from a large and vibrant Poser/DAZ community. The products I use for the main human figures are:
- Michael 4 (Free from DAZ)
- Michael 4’s Morphs (Not free from DAZ)
- Victoria 4.2 (Free from DAZ)
- Victoria 4.2’s Morphs (Not free from DAZ)
This comic would also not be possible, at least not how I had envisioned it, and how it has more or less materialized, without pwToon, the excellent Toon shaders for DAZ Studio, from Poserworks (not free, but worth the price).
The free Poser and DAZ models and other material I’ve collected have come from all over the web and all over the world, but by far the biggest and best site I’ve found is ShareCG.
This website is created using Wordpress and the ComicPress theme.
Please, if you have any questions about getting started rendering 3D figure scenes for $0.00, contact me. I’d be happy to answer your questions and point you to the resources online.
